The new Arm Mali-D77 display processor IP delivers superior 3K120 virtual reality (VR) performance for head-mounted displays (HMD) while removing the feeling of dizziness.

The new fixed-function hardware saves more than 40 percent of the system bandwidth and 12 percent of the power consumption for VR jobs.

The deployment of VR devices that are smaller, lighter, and more comfortable, without the need for wires, and whose applications range from head-mounted displays to general higher-order mobile displays.

Beijing - May 16, 2019 - Arm announced the introduction of the new mali-d77 display processor IP, which will reduce the system bandwidth and power consumption, bring more immersive experience and smoother performance for the future virtual reality, and eliminate the sense of dizziness, bringing more user-friendly and affordable VR devices for consumers.

Arm-based chips have been driving 99% of today's smart phones. Consumers' interest in VR continues to grow, and their requirements for technology are increasingly high. While the desktop can provide great performance, it is still a limited experience.Users expect a more immersive experience, smoother performance, less cabling, and lighter devices. The challenge, however, remains to develop the kind of performance that consumers crave without the tether, and the key to that is display technology.Everything from visuals to delays sets the tone for VR devices, and delays that are too obvious can cause vertigo.

Making VR universally available as a daily experience for billions of devices around the world is a long-term goal.Arm through new Arm ® Mali ™ - D77 DPU shows the processor, not only to solve the challenges on display technology, has led the VR entered the next phase.

Use new VR features to reduce virtuality and increase authenticity

Arm Mali- the new VR acceleration feature added to the D77 is what makes it stand out from the rest of the market for display processors. For example, moving specific operations from the GPU to the DPU results in higher quality visuals, while eliminating vertigo and freeing up more GPU load and associated system bandwidth.Mali-D77 other key enhancements include:

· Lens Distortion CorrecTIon: pre-distorts the image to offset the Lens effect, so that all images seen through the Lens of the VR headset are correct and without Distortion.

, ChromaTIc AberraTIon CorrecTIon (ChromaTIc AberraTIon CorrecTIon: CAC) : in the opposite direction in advance separation version of color, to resist VR lens blur caused by wearing a device.

· Asynchronous Timewarp:ATW: the translation and reprojection of virtual scenes based on the position of the user's latest head and headgear in 3D three-dimensional space.

Consumer-friendly devices save bandwidth and power

The bandwidth and power savings achieved by Mali-D77 will enable VR devices that are lighter, smaller, more comfortable, free of cables and more consumer-friendly:

· in the traditional VR use case, when the VR treatment and superposition are performed on the Mali -d77, the bandwidth can be reduced by up to 40%.

· under the premise that the performance level is not discounted, 12% power consumption can be saved, creating a higher quality visual effect and releasing GPU load.

Multifunctional display technology

While the benefits listed above are focused on VR head-mounted displays, the Mali-D77 is also extremely suitable for other devices, monitors and use cases. For example, the mali-d77 can be integrated with the existing developer ecosystem into a common SoC platform, switching from driving a VR headset display to driving another LCD/OLED screen (regardless of screen size) that can display 4K HDR scenes for mobile devices or home environments. Therefore, the same SoC can be used to solve different applications, and in the future it is expected to help make VR devices more affordable.

A display technology that subverts the status quo of virtual reality

Display technology is the last mile of truly untethered, immersive VR experiences. Our Mali D77 is designed to accelerate this journey for hardware and software developers, to showcase the possibilities for consumers, and to make the wireline-free VR a must-have.
