We've reported on samsung's "easy TAB" smartphone patent, which features a 60 percent vertical increase in the display area of the device's flexible screen. But Dutch tech blog LetsGoDigital recently reported another samsung patent for a stretchable flexible screen that features a twin-reel left-right stretch design. The patent for the "Display device" was filed with the U.S. patent and trademark office by Samsung Display and made public in the USPTO database on June 11, 2019.

The patent filing includes 27 sketches showing a mobile device with a retractable scroll display.

From the description of the mechanism of roller movement, this is a fairly clear patent in technology, and it may even be able to achieve automatic expansion and contraction.

With carefully designed scroll tracks, the device is able to wrap a flexible screen neatly inside the body, allowing users to change the size of the display as needed.

When extended, the circular frame on the left and right sides can also serve as a handle for the device. The durability of the design in real life remains to be seen.

Of course, as a mobile device, it also needs to accommodate other necessary components in the body content, such as the camera, sensor, battery, drive motor, etc. (the 3.5mm headphone jack obviously takes up too much space).

In fact, two years ago at SID Display Week 2016, samsung showed off a prototype screen that can stretch and scroll on one side.

The prototype screen has a 5.7-inch @fhd resolution, 386 PPI pixel density, a thickness of 0.3mm, a weight of 5 g and a rolling radius of 10R.

In addition to samsung, LG, another south Korean electronics giant, has openly discussed The feasibility of flexible scroll mobile devices, and it has launched a television, The Roll.

It's unclear when samsung will launch the dual-axis stretchable, flexible screen. After all, the Galaxy Fold alone has put the company in big trouble.

If all goes well, the mobile devices will apparently sell for more than 2,000 euros (15,000 + RMB) in Galaxy folds.
